It would be easy to write an entire book on the ins and outs of what goes on in the studio but hopefully the steps we're touching on below will give you a great idea of what goes on here. RECORDING
At the heart of any project is the time spent recording it. Prodigal Sound Studios is at the top of the list of Vancouver island recording studios.
In live tracking sessions, we can capture that special energy and live feel of an entire band performing together while sending multiple headphone mixes and having the freedom to overdub and edit parts using isolation techniques.
If you're looking to focus on a single overdub at time, we have all the necessary equipment and tools to find the perfect sounds and tones that each song calls for. All of this would be achieved through creative mic placement techniques and outboard processing.
MIXING
This step is just as important as all the hard work and time put into the recording phase of your project because this is the part of the process where your songs will really take shape. We use industry standard editing and mix software, in combination with high end outboard gear, to have that warm analog sound without giving up the flexibility of digital recording.
We can also edit out mistakes in each track seamlessly combining the best parts from multiple takes so your end result is one perfect performance. Not to mention we're really good at it. Musicians are blown away the first time they see how quick and clean our edits can be.
Volume automations (using a motorized fader mixing console), compression, eq, reverb and a trained pair of good ears will all be used to find that balance and bleed sweet spot for each song.
Prodigal Sound Studios is also available to mix projects recorded elsewhere. Maybe you recorded in your home studio but you'd like to have a fresh set of ears mix your project in a balanced room with class A analog outboard gear and industry standard software tools.
MASTERING
This part of your project is the final creative adjustments to optimizes recordings for maximum effectiveness before commercial release. Mastering has become a misunderstood but vitally important stage in recording production.
At Prodigal Sound Studios we've focused our energy on learning the importance of signal flow: cleaning the chain of unnecessary electronics and amplifiers, focusing on digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital technology and the gain structure that accompanies the process. To us mastering is an art that goes beyond just making your mixes "LOUD".
